How to Design an A-Frame House: Full Design & Build

A nature-immersed home project, delivered end-to-end by Except, from concept to handover.

Some projects get under your skin. The A-Frame on the Prahova Valley is one of them. Delivered between October 2025 and April 2026, in a mountain village, this is one of the projects the Except team looks back on with genuine pride.

A 140-square-meter house with 5 rooms — two stories of a young couple’s life woven into a single geometry. And a real technical challenge: the A-Frame structure itself.

Design & Build from scratch, without compromise

The project was delivered as a full design & build. The Except team covered everything. From interior design and project management to full execution of all works (finishes, ceramic cladding, natural wood paneling, parquet flooring). From adapting and installing electrical and plumbing systems to producing and integrating custom furniture. Rounded off with curated décor pieces and lighting fixtures, plus curtain supply and final cleaning.

One point of contact, one thread of accountability, one coherent result.

Two visions, one space

The clients, a young couple, started with what seemed like a contradictory brief. She wanted light, air, natural materials, a space that breathes. He wanted darker zones with strong character, man-cave vibes, plus a top-floor office with a panoramic view, coherently integrated into the whole.

The solution wasn’t a compromise, it was a composition. The open-plan living room and kitchen receive generous light through the glazed façade, while the staircase, office, and sleeping areas take on a distinct character: darker, more focused. The two bedrooms and the upstairs office coexist naturally within a unified narrati

The A-Frame geometry: challenge and opportunity

The A-Frame structure demands, by its very nature, rigorous discipline. The sloping angles, variable ceiling heights, residual spaces, all of these call for custom solutions and a detailed project, with strict coordination between architecture, systems, and furniture

The Except team responded with a complete technical design, close on-site supervision, and custom furniture measured and built to the millimeter. Every piece was conceived to make the most of the space it occupies. not to ignore it or hide it.

The result is a dynamic space with no dead zones.

Materials that speak of place

The material palette was built around wood, natural oak in warm tones, dark accents with strong character, burnt-wood paneling on walls that carry visual weight. Complemented by stone-look ceramic, engineered parquet, and decorative finishes in concrete and off-white tones, the ensemble breathes coherence.

The color scheme deliberately alternates between bright, open zones and dark accents for contrast and identity. A contemporary aesthetic with natural influences, perfectly anchored in the hillside and forest landscape of the Prahova Valley.

The element that defines the project

The staircase is not merely a circulation element, it is the home’s central sculptural volume. Treated as a multifunctional architectural ensemble, with integrated under-stair storage and high-impact black cladding, the staircase becomes the point of tension between light and dark, between the house’s structure and its spirit.

A-Frame Provița is more than a well-executed holiday home. It is proof that a structure with real geometric constraints can become, in the right hands, an opportunity for expression.
